Algonquin for "the good land"

Newly named Millioke restaurant at Marriott hires exec chef

The restaurant at the soon-to-open Milwaukee Marriott Downtown hotel is taking a cue from Alice Cooper in its newly announced name.

Millioke - Meat, Cheese and Beer is the new name for the restaurant originally announced in September as Milwaukee Café & Bar, according to the news release.

As Cooper famously proclaimed in "Wayne's World," Millioke is Algonquin for "the good land." The hotel developer, White Lodging Services Corp., has shifted the menu to include more locally grown produce and local craft beers, the release said.

The restaurant at 323 E. Wisconsin Ave. has hired Patrick Taylor as its executive chef. Taylor has 12 years of culinary experience in Texas and received a bachelor's degree from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Minneapolis.

Millioke will maintain the originally announced focus on Milwaukee's classic food and beverages. It has a partnership with Usinger's Famous Sausage and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, along with 15 other local suppliers, the release said. The menu will feature at least 15 Wisconsin cheeses at all times, 20 varieties of local craft beer and a build-your-own plate of cheese and Usinger's sausage.

The hotel and restaurant are expected to open in July.
